OVERVIEW:

American power metal band PANZER DIVISION was formed in Washington, D.C. in 1984, by guitarist Dave Bradley, drummer John Tutko, vocalist J.D. Feldstein, and bassist Jim Crockett.
While in its infancy, heavy metal quickly began to resonate with youths the world over, most notably due to the impact of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM), including such bands as JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, and DEF LEPPARD. Meanwhile, bands such as RIOT, TWISTED SISTER, and MANILLA ROAD began to emerge across the United States.

In 1979, Bradley and Tutko formed a cover band called GLASS ANVIL that hit the local metro area club circuit playing heavy metal standards and obscurities to an ever-increasing audience of headbangers. The band continued to deliver the goods to ravenous audiences until 1883, when its members decided to go their separate ways.
At which time, Bradley and Tutko decided to continue moving forward with a new band that would focus on writing and playing original material.

Over the next year, the duo would remain inactive while concentrating on writing material. By March 1984, they had compiled over twenty songs. At this point, the two decided it was time to start putting a band together. Ads were then placed in local entertainment papers that attracted the attention of Feldstein and Crockett, both of whom were drafted out of D.C. area bands.

Now, with the addition of Feldstein and Crockett, the band was a solid four-piece with an arsenal of songs ready for rapidfire.
All that was needed now was a moniker, a name that conveyed heaviness, power, and destruction like a tank that just decimated whatever it rolled over. However, there was already a band called TANK hailing from the UK. So, the quartet thought of the Panzer Tank, ultimately deciding on the name PANZER DIVISION.

Now with a name, several songs written, and a look that saw the members clad in battle fatigues and leather, as was fashionable in the scene, PANZER DIVISION seemed to be poised to set out on a full-on assault on the fledgling metal scene.

Alas, this was not meant to be, as PANZER DIVISION would enter Star Studios and would only process one 5-song demo from those sessions. The demo gained high praise in rags and zines abroad. Songs like "On A Full Moon", “Fast Train To Nowhere", and "Crush” delivered metallic hardrock with scorching NWOBHM influence and catchy melodic riffs aimed at power metal fans. While the track “The Beginning of the End" would exhibit a more PENTAGRAM flavored doomy sound and feel that has always been deep-rooted in the band’s area of origin.

However, the band would not last long and never played a single show before disbanding. This would relegate PANZER DIVISION to heavy metal obscurity to be buried in time and hidden for years. Over those years, bassist Crockett would go M.I.A. Later, both founding members, Bradley and Tutko, would pass away, leaving Feldstein as the sole representation of a band that once was.
