If persistence were the road to rock stardom, NOVA REX would be one of the biggest rock bands in the world. For more than four decades, the band's relentless drive, determination, and passion have kept the flame of melodic hard rock burning, proving that true rock and roll never dies. NOVA REX was originally formed in Canada by guitarist J.P. Cervoni, who relocated the band to Florida's Sunshine State in 1985. Shortly after arriving, Cervoni found himself rebuilding the lineup after several original members returned to Canada. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old bassist named Kenny Wilkerson had left Indiana for Florida in pursuit of his own rock-and-roll dreams. Fate brought Wilkerson and Cervoni together in Tampa, forming a musical partnership that would span more than four decades. The pair quickly assembled a new NOVA REX lineup and began making a name for themselves on the Florida club circuit. Before long, they packed their bags and headed west to Los Angeles, joining the height of the legendary Sunset Strip rock explosion. Arriving in Los Angeles in 1987, NOVA REX immersed themselves in the thriving Sunset Strip scene. While on the West Coast, and with the help of MCA Records, the band recorded its first album. The album would not see a wide release and would be used primarily for promotion purposes. Sometime after the recording, the band would see a personnel change that would result in the introduction of lead vocalist Abbie Stancato into the band. The lineup of NOVA REX was now lead guitarist J.P. Cervoni, bassist Kenny Wilkerson, drummer Tim Berry, and frontman Abbie Stancato; together, these four musicians deliver a powerful combination of musicianship, songwriting, and stage presence. The band spent the next several years touring and building a loyal following. As musical trends began to change in the early 1990s, Wilkerson recognized that the glam metal era was nearing its end. Believing there was still time to reach a wider audience, the band relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1992. That same year, NOVA REX released their sophomore album, Blow Me Away—a collection of soaring vocals, scorching guitars, thunderous rhythms, unforgettable hooks, and a more mature songwriting approach that delivers everything fans love about classic melodic hard rock and AOR. The album captures everything fans have come to expect from NOVA REX: huge melodies, blistering guitar solos, powerhouse vocals, and an unmistakable rock-and-roll attitude. Highlights include the infectious rocker "Alone Tonight," the soaring power ballad "Think of Me," the fan favorite "Can't Find Love," and the anthemic title track "Blow Me Away." Over the past four decades, NOVA REX has become one of hard rock's true survivors. The band gained international recognition through the acclaimed documentaries Nova Rex: Ain't Easy Being Cheesy and Nova Rex: Ain't Easy Staying Cheesy, seen by millions on The Documentary Channel and Netflix (both documentaries are currently streaming on the TUBI platform). NOVA REX also appeared alongside Warrant, Tesla, Quiet Riot, and other rock legends in the film Hair I Go Again.VH1 also recognized NOVA REX among its Top 50 Greatest Hair Metal Bands. The band's career has earned several accolades, including permanent displays at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, the Indiana State Museum, and the Daytona Hard Rock, further cementing its place in rock history.
